Earplugs For Snoring

Best Earplugs for Snoring?

When choosing a pair of earplugs it is important that you take particular notice of the NRR. (Noise Reduction Rating) The NRR is the amount of sound, measured in decibels, that a pair of ear plugs will block out.

To better understand this, a persons hearing threshold is defined as 0db (decibels). A watch ticking would have a level around 20db, whilst whispering rates at approximately 30db, the average conversation is around 50 - 60db. A vacuum cleaner is typically 70db and snoring usually falls between 60 –90 decibels. Thats pretty damn loud in anyones ears...

The highest noise reduction rating (NRR) currently offered by an earplug is 33 decibels.  Decibel levels up to the earplug's NRR rating will be blocked out entirely.  Any noise over the earplug’s NRR may still be heard.

Can Earplugs Block All Sound?

In a word, unfortunately there is no ear plug in the world that can block out “all” noise when it comes to very loud snoring.

Ear Plugs are life savers (and often marriage savers) for many. However, even with the best ear plugs available, snoring can sometimes still be too loud for a partner to happily sleep.

An important factor to note is that the whole body absorbs sound, not just our ears; so short of encapsulating oneself in a sound proof chamber, it is seemingly impossible to block out all noise.  Earplugs and other types of hearing protection devices are designed to lessen the harshness of the noise and bring it down to a safer, more tolerable level.

How do I choose The Best Earplug for Snoring?

To be most effective in blocking loud noise and or the most amount of loud noise, earplugs should have high Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) and  ideally this should be around 30db or greater.

Does Comfort Matter?

Absolutely!

Because earplugs to block snoring will be used when sleeping, it’s essential that they are comfortable to wear.

The size of the earplug and the size of your ear canal definitely comes into play here. Earplugs that are too large can place too much pressure on the ear canal and cause discomfort. On the other side of the coin, if earplugs are too small and they can easily fall out in your sleep and or not provide the intended noise reduction.

Which Ear Plugs Are Best For Me?

Medium to Large ear canals…

We recommend Macks Maximum Protection Soft Foam Earplugs which have the highest NRR available with a NRR of 33db. Alternatively our very popular Macks Ultra Soft Earplugs.

Small Ear Canals...

We recommend our Macks Slimfit Soft Foam Earplugs and Macks Dreamgirl Soft Foam Ear Plugs. The Slimfit are a slightly smaller and more tapered design than the Dreamgirl and both have a high NRR.

Still unsure?

An earplug with a NRR of 30 - 33db will reduce the level of sound but sometimes this may still not be enough to reach a good night sleep.

We have helped hundreds of people over the years successfully get to sleep with WHITE NOISE!

What is White Noise?

White Noise quite simply masks unwanted sounds. The best and most effective solution to block noise and attain a peaceful sleep, is by using a combination of earplugs and a pure white noise. Many find our sound-masking devices alone to be the answer to their prayers.
